Continued from here…. (link)
I am beginning to think my friends are right. They, I mean the birds, are coming to me to get their portfolio made. Look who came over yesterday. This guy with the fancy head gear and painted whiskers. He is the Red-whiskered Bulbul.
Not content with getting himself photographed, he came back with the queen of his heart, and wanted lovey-dovey twosome pictures clicked with her.
This here is Mr. Kingfisher who was trying to impress his girlfriend sitting on another cable close by. I don’t know whether she was, but I certainly was floored by his performance.
But I guess, she WAS impressed because then she joined him in a synchronized performance. Stunning, actually that I almost forgot to click.
(Well this is all my imagination. Being practically an ignoramus about birds, I could be wrong about bird intentions! Perhaps they were both males and were trying to outdo each other to impress the third one, who probably was the female, sitting on a cable higher up).
Anyways, who should alight on the same cable, the portfolio one?! This little tweeter. Doesn’t he/she look oh so fluffy and cute, almost like a toy? Anyone wanna identify this little ball of fluff?
And now I am left wondering who is going to be next. Any guesses?

Oh my god! They certainly know who can capture them the best:) You certainly have an eye for things which would have gone past most of us:)
Btw, just a few minutes ago, I saw a red chested little bird in my garden. But it flew away before I could do anything at all:( I am tempted to hang a little bird feeder to see if I can get more of them to visit:)
A bird feeder would be nice Smitha! I can’t keep one because Luci will chase all the birds 😦
The red chested guy could be a Robin… I was just thinking. It will come back and give you ample opportunity to click him! 🙂
I envy you, Shail! The bul buls are really beautiful! The kingfishers too! The last one is a fatty!
I have got some tiny birds, one pair with a black back and white belly and another pair with a chutney green back and white belly. They are very tiny but their chirpings are quite loud. I am not able to photograph them at all. They are toooo fast. I must learn from you to photograph them! One pair had a baby bird too!
Oh your birds sound lovely! You must try and click them and post pictures Sandhya! Hey, so you have baby birds too. Nice! 🙂
I came back again to show this to my husband. The storry you have woven with the pictures is lovely! you will never get bored with so many birds for company!
I am never bored, Sandhya! I don’t have time 😉
You are having a ball 😀 superb captures and lucky lucky you 😀
Yes I am 😀 😀
shail, I am sure the birdie world has been talking about your click click skills.
Those are lovely birds coming to visit you . lucky you!
Even I happened to witness ‘hornbill’ in my neighbourhood and later its nest and feeding behaviour ,sure gonna post the pics soon.
Ohh, do post pictures! I love Hornbills!
Reblogged this on Shots and captures.
wow!! Lovely shots Shail!! 🙂
Thanks Pixie 🙂
Told ya.
They know a connoisseur when they see one.
Make sure the portfolio is on display 😀
It will definitely ensure the word will spread, and soon you’re going to be one busy bird-momma too 🙂 🙂
Loved that red-cheeked (cheeky 😛 ) pair!
And the performing kingfishers! Wow.
Haha! I think I will have an FB album for each of them 😉
The Kingfisher performance was really something! I was too far to take a video. And I didn’t know either that they were going to dance like this! 🙂
WOW! Beautiful shots there Shail! And lucky you that you’re getting to see so many different kinds of birds around 🙂
I hope more come to sit on the ‘portfolio’ cable! 🙂 😀

A female sunbird, maybe Loten’s Sunbird, not sure…. love this post and this is a little like how I felt everytime I looked at my camera, on the way back from Gangtok… like there was a treasure inside it 😀
I think it is the female Purple-rumped Sunbird. Right now I have some treasure inside my camera. Gotta download them 😀
Hi Shail
So someone did give you the identity of the bird. I have posted a response too.
regards
Jayadev
Welcome to Shail’s Nest, Jayadev 🙂 Actually I came across a picture on the net and came to the conclusion myself. I am glad to know it is the right one. Next time I want to id a bird, I am coming straight to you! 🙂
Thank you for dropping in.
🙂
Great! That’s the best way – go by gut feel and find the answer.
I have seen a lot of young photographers (posing as birders) who keep posting bird photos and ask for the ID. They don’t take the trouble to do the research or even to hazard a guess.
Glad you did the search – but I am willing to chip in too.
Have you visited my blog … its a business blog.

I have a lot to write about birding and travel but never got round to doing it.
Cheers!
Oh, I enjoy searching for an id immensely and enter all permutations and combinations of descriptions on google search to find them. I do the same for flowers. 🙂
I just hopped over to your blog. Whenever you start on your travel and birding blog, I am going to be there 🙂
Thank you!
Let’s compare notes on the birds and flowers observed. Those are topics I love too. Maybe I can ask you for some flower IDs – not much knowledge in that domain.
Loved the pix of bulbuls. Brought back many memories. I had once won a prize for painting a bulbul at some wildlife painting contest. Nice blog
