Hello hello hello! Welcome to one and all to my new lair.
The move from my old place was rather eventful though (ahem) rather competently managed by yours truly (just a homemaker), bar a couple of phone calls to France (yeah, France!) with no results, a lot more of them to the junior son (I practically bombarded the poor fellow with calls using him as a sounding board, trying ot make things clearer for myself), an appeal to a friend Swapan who took the trouble (so sweet of him) to find the necessary links to solve my problem but which were too complicated for poor old me (made my head spin) to understand, and finally a call to Vinita (which actually started moving things in the right direction and gave me results). How can I forget the moral support all through from my best friend, whose ears I filled with my tales of woe?
I learned quite a bit on my way during the move. I have more questions that need answers. If there are any experts willing to answer them for me (who is a true dumbo in these matters as in others, but willing to learn if spelled out in words of two syllables), please step forward and identify yourself. The act will be much appreciated and I will be eternally grateful.
In the meantime, here I am, after all the excitement, cozily ensconced in my new place, with all my posts and comments intact and Google doing its job as instructed, by redirecting old links to this new place. So it is back to work for me, writing long and boring blogs, irritating stick-in-the-mud types by questioning age old beliefs, taking a non-serious and tongue in cheek look at issues that are supposedly to be talked about in hallowed tones only (oh really?!), telling (tall?) tales, posting pictures, making fun of my family, including the dog and cats, being the practical joker and of course pulling my very own legs (yeah I know no amount of it will make me taller than my 5 feet nothing) in the process.
The onslaught continues here on the same lines as before. So brace yourself for the ride friends, foes, critics, nitpickers, praisers, lurkers, stalkers, complimenters, the lot. I love you all (well not really, not all, not the stalkers or nitpickers. Who do you think I am, a bally saint?).
So here’s wishing that you will find interesting eggs in Shail’s Nest, I welcome you all to my new lair once again 🙂

There there … seems to have been a frantic move. Never mind, I am willing to answer, provided you ask me simple questions that I can comprehend. I tend to leave most complex matters to Godji, and before my sons protest … Godji sent you along to help me, okay. Stop taking credit for everything.

Thanks for posting your move on FB my dear. WordPress kindly replaced my old RSS feed from your nest with your new digs (after I asked nicely 3 times).Maybe someday you’ll inspire me to return to random and inconsistent blogging.

It didn’t change automatically.At first I couldn’t find the RSS feed on this site,but I finally stumbled upon it.When I added it it appeared to be linked to the other blog page,but latter in the day there was just an empty space from the old feed.
The comment about returning to blogging was really more of a threat than a promise.

Shail, on reading the title of your post at Facebook i got the impression that you have physically moved from Trivandrum or within the city but on opening the link i learnt that it was a move in the cyberspace. Nice to see your new den.

GV, the only thing I lost in the move was your comment on the blog ‘Language wars‘. In the last batch I moved, I did not go backwards beyond Nov 1st. 2011 😦

But how did you do it even though you’ve given up your old domain? I didn’t know that was possible. Have you extended it for a month or so?
Nope, I added the domain to wordpress for a fee. Actually I was not even sure what it entailed. But I am glad to see each page link being redirected!
If you have paid, it should show under your own domain. shailsnest.com/… .not shailsnest.wordpress.com/…
That had been my impression too. But I don’t get why it is showing shailsnest.wordpress.com

There was an option to choose which to use as primary domain. I had not made my choice and updated it. Now I did 🙂 Now I can update it every year as also pay the annual godaddy charges, right? 🙂

U have gone so far.. a lil more: you have to set it in such a way that shailsnest.wordpress.com redirects to shailsnest.com. This is necessary to avoid search-engines double indexing.
I just found that wordpress is already redirecting the search engines. After the search engines crawl your site next time, thereafter there should ideally be no results for: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:shailsnest.wordpress.com
Uh-ho! What should I do now? 😦 Or will things sort themselves on their own?

More: I wondered why you moved from your own website to this place, esp. when it was worpress.com, after your own name… and now, after reading samvit’s comments, I get it 🙂 I guess you have more control when it is your own. So do you find it better here? Or do you miss the old place? The web add. looks the same, sort of 🙂

I moved because Samvit (who was hosting it for me) discontinued and I am not competent to deal with the host-ers myself. Here everything is just the same as for other WordPress.com users except that by paying a fee I get to use my old name without the WordPress.com tag (I can use that too if I so wish) and also have all searches for my old blogs redirected to this place. If I hadn’t done that, you’d have seen a 404 error. (It was there for some time before things started working)
I can take more control of things (like I had at my old place) if I pay a higher fee, I am not too keen unless I Iearn something more before that. But I do miss the Atahualpa theme I used over there. It was very flexible. And the minus point here is I cannot add many of the things I had over there as WordPress does not allow JavaScript.
Now it is more from me 😛

I had to get the old links to redirect. So I paid to add the old domain here at wordpress.com. Now I have the option to use shailsnest.wordpress.com’ or just ‘shailsnest.com’ I have chosen the latter. 🙂

It is said that necessity is the mother of all inventions….. Well the sudden “emergency” you had to address with respect to your site brought in the necessary skills & the know-how in you. I feel elated and honoured that you considered me also in that loop with whom you shared your experience & feelings during this transition – the anxious moments…the relief…and finally the time to rejoice when the old site started getting redirected to the new one. Phew, you really did a great job and very fast too (with due respect & consideration to the person who really gave the tips)!
Shail Mohan you are doing wonderful job….the look & feel of this new site is great..let the new interesting “eggs” continue to come in!
