That’s Malayalam for ‘White Doves Of Peace’ for you.
The thing about these White Doves Of Peace is that they are tricky creatures. Whenever there is a conflict and the good people are being thrashed (verbally or physically) they remain in hiding, or sometimes in plain sight, but silent, as if the cat has got their tongue.
Tip: No, the cat hasn’t as the unfolding scenario later shows. Or umm… may be the cat, very conveniently, returns the tongues as per demand. Anyways…
Once the badgering and harassment (of the good people) decreases a bit in volume, and only then, the White Doves of Peace spring into action. Apparently, that’s when the natural fault lines that have developed between The Bullies and The Bullied starts giving them sleepless nights.
From then on, they lose no time scattering Words of Wisdom. They talk of peace, unity, family values (“We are all a family, aren’t we?!”), the works. Never mind that they did not feel the urge to intervene with messages of goodwill and peace while good people were being slandered. Suddenly everything becomes about being a ‘family’ and the need to stick together.
Apparently silently watching (supposed) ‘family members’ verbally abusing other (also supposed) ‘family members’ was their thing when the escalation was in progress . When the injustice has been done, they arrive in full force in their pristine white Samadhanathinte Vellari Pravukal avatar singing paeans of peace.
Of course, this we-are-bringers-of-peace-and-unity act is TOO LITTLE, and TOO LATE. But who cares? The ‘photo-opportunity’ (permanently creating a picture in the minds of participants and viewers alike) is kidilan. That’s Mallu slang, which means super, excellent. The ‘good name’ and the ‘elevation’ it gets the Doves among peers is also kidilan.
But
Guess what? I don’t wear those rose coloured spectacles favoured by most people, just good old prescription lenses, and that too only for reading purpose. So, I can see things for what they are (a curse, most times!). See extra clearly too. What I see is this: The White Doves of Peace are nothing but Opportunistic Feeders and/or Spineless Fools. Nothing more, nothing less.

Our world is in turmoil and there are far too many untruths, bullies, and unfair actions happening. I too am sceptical of the ‘white doves’ that provide a brief visual papering over of the wrongs that have been committed. There is also a tendency among news networks not to allow both sides to have their full say – leaving viewers uninformed or filled with one-sided opinions.
So very true, Anne. The majority are uninformed because those peddling untruths have the upper hand. The white doves are not helping any with their agenda either.
I’m not sure what specifically brought you to write this post Shail but it seems very appropriate for our (very scary) times.
Yes, it is, Ken. It struck me how the same thing plays out whether in families, local groups, or in national and international levels. I had the misfortune to see good people being bashed and pushed out by the hooligans who had ganged together. The peacemakers of course arrived late like the police in Bollywood movies. 🙄
Same thing happens in families, friends , on a bigger scale in society and country.
Very true.
I agree, it happens at all levels!
