*Nandi flame, also called African tuliptree, fountain tree, pichkari, poomaram (Malayalam) etc, has been nominated as among 100 of the “World’s Worst” invaders according to Wiki. But the birds, they love it. I only wish the tree were a little closer to my house 🙂

These West African trees are regarded as being invasive in a few provinces in South Africa, the Eastern Cape being one of them. We had a large one growing in our farm garden in Mpumulanga and I remember it attracted an enormous variety of birds when in flower.
The one behind my house seems to have some barbets (white-cheeked) as residents 🙂
Beautiful picture! We had one tree behind our flat…it fell down during the cyclone. Must wait and see if it survives like many other trees.
I read that this tree needs special effort to be completely killed off. So it is most likely you will find it growing back.
