I have been saying half-jokingly, that the waterlogged area in South Kalamassery, where I clicked the pictures shown below, can be turned into a mini bird sanctuary. It merits the name by the number of birds one finds there. Take a look at the collage of bird pictures you see below.
These were clicked by standing still at a single spot, and within a short span of time. I have not included the Crows, Common Mynas, Tailor Birds, Sunbirds and Rufous Treepies, who I could hear, but was not able to spot. When I think of how the land will eventually be developed, it being spang in the middle of a residential colony and adjacent to a railway line, I mourn for a future loss, ours and theirs.
Note: Keep your cursor on the picture itself to know the names of the birds.

Brilliant shots Shail!! TY for sharing 🙂
Thank you and welcome to Shail’s nest 🙂
I took only the pic of a pond heron and of cranes and few other birds (cant name) in Jim corbett and I was proud of them . They are on my FB ! but when I See this I realise I didnt do justice to the beauties 🙂
great clicks and one can easily believe its a sanctuary
Thanks Afshan. Now off to check your pics 🙂
Whenever I see these beautiful birds, I feel sad at the background. We are shooing them away from everywhere. Where will they go?
I went to my niece’s house on Suday. Their backyard is a marsh…many birds come there and sometimes the area is covered completely by birds. Slowly they are encroaching the birds’ area…they see snakes, tortoises and other creatures often, it seems. It is very near to OMR which is developing in jet speed. Even our area was full of trees and I saw many nests when I visited here before they started cutting them down. I feel very guilty.
I know it is really sad when you think of it. 😦
A shame if this is lost .. as it likely will be.
It is just a matter of time.
Great photos. Reminds me of the movie with Mohanlal and the bird-watcher who gets mistaken for a CID.
Haha. I remember that movie. Welcome to Shail’s Nest!
Delightful pictures! 🙂 🙂
Thanks! 😀
Love the entire collage and it’s so beautiful:)
Thank you! 🙂
