In the blink of an eye
comes the transformation
the meek morph to tyrants
Gods become the reason
Setting fire to feelings
fueling them to blaze higher ….and higher
the kind turn callous
violence their only religion.
Rising (or falling??) to the occasion
friends regroup as foes
and baying for blood
blindly slaughter their very own.
Do NOT tell me of your omnipotent Gods
who depend on insignificant humans
to plead Their cause on Earth
and massacre on Their behalf…
Gods who require to be flaunted
need followers in huge numbers…
colors to define, spaces to dwell
are mere reflections, of constricted minds…

The prompts this week: blink, occasion, kind
Applause! I loved this poem. May I copy it and print it?
@Phoenixritu,
Thank you 🙂 You are welcome!
Brilliant!! Loved it. Amongst my absolute favorites by you.
//Do NOT tell me of your omnipotent Gods

@Indian Homemaker,
Yeah, If they are Omnipotent, don’t They know to take care of things on their own?? So humans when they fight over religion are in effect admitting their Gods are not Omnipotent and can survive only with their help! 😛
This is like an answer to my post called, ‘Should religion be a personal matter?’
//In the blink of an eye
comes the transformation
the meek morph to tyrants
Gods become the reason//
@Indian Homemaker,
It should always be a personal matter I feel, not for display. 🙂
Powerful, Shail, and so connected to the experience of thousands of people right now. Current. Relevant. Important.
@Kim Nelson,
Thank you for the appreciation 🙂
Wonderful poem, so relevant to today’s problems, both secular and religious.
@Altonian,
Thank you for the comment 🙂
That is my favourite part too. This was excellent Shail!!! Take a bow 🙂
@Writerzblock,
Thank you *takes a bow* 😀
Amzing and wonderful all at once
@Sheilagh Lee,
Thank you 🙂
Shail, this is amazing stuff. As the wife of a pastor, I can tell you that we believe in the Jesus who had no place to lay his head. Who always pointed up to God, and told people to love one another and love God and have self-esteem… all the rest doesn’t matter. If you’re coming from love, living out of love, no matter what your faith path, there is no reason for war, for greed, for some living in poverty and others living in 18 mansions (like Glenn Beck or Rick Warren or other political/religious “icons”).
You really touched a chord, the musical kind, in my heart. Peace, Amy Barlow Liberatore
@Sharp Little Pencil,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you for your comment. 🙂
How dare you to question MY god!
Do you take me for a brainless clod
coz like-minded people like peas in a pod
to whatever you write or speak always nod
give you the courage to give a TIGER a prod
Stop this blasphemy or I might visit you with a rod.
🙂 Absolutely fantastic.
@Govind,
*indignant* You what?? Visit me with a rod??!! *evil grin* Just you dare! 😆
wow !!! excellent !!!
@horseandmoon,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you for the appreciation 🙂
i too dont believe in a God baying for the blood of her own children.
@trisha,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you for the comment 🙂 Anyone who kills fellow human being in the name of God speaks only for his own limited vision which cannot see beyond his own nose 🙂
Shail – I don’t think you could have written a more relevant, timely poem – nor one so perfectly stated. Your words echo the sentiments of so many of us around the world. You have a global voice.
@RJ Clarken,
Thank you so much for the kind words. It has relevance for the times we live in 🙂
You should have a like button for ur posts, it’ll be easy to comment. 🙂 🙂
Just love it, Shail. 🙂 🙂 Very well written – the bitter truth.
@UmaS,
Awww, thank you so much 🙂
Yep, bitter it is to think narrow minds have such narrow perceptions of their ‘all-powerful’ Gods.
Poetry meets pure practical persuasive philosophy 🙂
The notions are on the bloomin dot! And yes, if a God needs all those things, it is but a reflection of such minds! Brilliant!
@Usha,
Thank you *takes a bow* Little minds make up little Gods like them 😉
I love those last two verses…You speak for me when you say it. This is so timely, coming to think of all the things happening around our world today.
@Rashmi,
Not surprising at all, considering you speak a lot for me too 🙂
Blown away by this one!! Awesome Shail 🙂
@arch,
Thank you 🙂
That was absolutely fantastic .
Gods who require to be flaunted
Need followers in huge numbers…
Colors to define, spaces to dwell
Are but mere reflections, of constricted minds…
kudos to you.
shall like to keep a copy of it , just like Ritu.
@kirti,
You are welcome to it 🙂 The Gods people fight over represent their own narrow minded ways of thinking, I feel. Thank you 🙂
freedom and religion… two very tough states of mind… you spoke eloquently of today’s world…
@ms pie,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you very much 🙂
Bravo. This is absolutely wonderful.
@ThomG,
Thank you 🙂
Beautifully expressed. This one should be published.
@Grandma’s Goulash,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you for your kind words. 🙂
This could be an elaborated Eleventh Commandments or an Addendeum to the newest edition of any holy script. Bravo
@Maddy,
Lol, thank you Maddy 🙂
