Sunny days are hard to come by in God’s own land, especially when Mister Monsoon gets it into his head to pour or for that matter just sprinkle. A cat has nowhere to go to take a well deserved nap when that happens. The lady of course likes rain. She can afford to. She has a house you see, where sadly enough the wee little purty cat that I am, I am not welcome.
A small matter of some fish she left on the kitchen platform which (says she) she intended to cook for herself and her old man, and which I gobbled up when she wasn’t around. All I can say in my defense is that I thought she had left it for me in her kindhearted way. I mean, what else would one think the way she chirrups to me lovingly every time she sees me, besides running after me to try and catch me, at her age too?! Of course I don’t let her catch me. I run faster than her and make good my escape. I am a wild one, not a tame house cat and horror of horrors she might start baby-talking to me like she used to do with that dog of hers.
Anyways, kind hearted, that’s the impression I had about her till we had that disagreement about the fish. Well, errrr… I guess there was also the occasion when I tore open the packet of food the old man had got for himself when she had gone gallivanting the country-side and also the day errr… I mean days, I had upset the dustbin in my search for the source of the fishy smell and also the time I broke the eggs making her kitchen smell to high heaven. She had been livid. Knit brows and all.
I heard her mumbling to herself that when the dog was around none of this had happened. Phoooey. Am I glad the dog isn’t around!? I never dared enter the house those days. My place had always been on top of the wall. Being a cutie pie and never daring to enter the house like the fat cat Fatso, my standing with her had been higher then.
Today had been one bright sunny day after days of rain. I found a cozy spot for myself behind the ixora bush and made myself comfortable.
Something woke me. I lay there with my eye open trying to figure things out.
Ohh give me a break! It was the shutterbug lady with her tiny camera.
I yawned and sat up. She was going on clicking me.
I couldn’t have pictures of me taken without a spot of grooming.
For all you know she was gonna post it on her blog for the whole world to see.
A cat has her self respect Can’t have millions, okay thousands…..
errr…make that hundreds, seeing me in an un-groomed state.
I tried to scare her off by staring at her.
No way. Tenacious, the lady is! Sigh.
I almost know how Princess Diana might have felt. Sighhh.
But… enough of this.
I got up in a huff and moved away, to throw her off track.
Should I jump and go find some other place??
Would you believe it the shutterbug lady hasn’t given up! Aaaargh.
Oh well. I’ll just stay put. She’ll get tired of the same old pose and go away.
She’s gone. Hehehe Actually, the lady doesn’t mean harm. But a cat has to sleep undisturbed.
I will now go back to my favorite spot and finish my interrupted catnap.
Meeoow!

Was here to read, your cat scared me away! I don’t like cats! 😐
@Sourav,
Hahaha, that had me laughing, the thought that the cat scared you away form my page!! 😛
Am serious, it does! See am still away! 😉
@Sourav,
Yeah I notice that! 😉
Okay! Now before you start hitting me! I am goneeeeeeeeee! *Wooosshhhh!* 😀
Njoyed…!
@Makk, Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thanks 🙂
LOL, the animals are having a real tough time these days, thanks to the invention of blogs and most importantly, wordless wednesdays !! Why isnt Maneka Gandhi voicing against this, beats me ! 😀 😀 😀
@vimmuuu,
Shhhhhh! Let sleeping Maneka’s lie. I am already worried about having mentioned in one of my posts that the Mallu saying, ‘Onthine kandal thalli kollanam’ has been coined by the right people. 😛 Don’t rake up the WW issue as well or she will have WWs banned or worse, blogging!! 😛
LOL, is there a saying like that ??? I am sure it originated from Kannur then; people there I heard are violent 😀 😀 😀 😀
and yeah, what if they ban blogs, na? where will I go and spam then ! Ok Ok. I am ssshhiiing…….. 😛
@vimmuuu,
You didn’t know that about the onthu??! I am sure someone troubled by the onthu (like I had been) made it up! But I am not from Kannur! :O
Ok good that you are sssshhiiiing. For the good of all bloggers and spammers alike we mustn’t let Maneka know what we are up to, shooting animals and putting up their pictures! 😀 😀 😀
cool!!!!!!!
loved the snaps and narration from cat’s perspective 😉
@Sundeep,
Thanks Sundeep! Today she was more obliging. Yesterday she ran away before I could say ‘meow’! 🙂
The cat is majestic! Are you sure its wild? I’d love a kitten with that coloring.
Ritu, cats are scary stay away! 😛
@Phoenixritu,
By wild I meant she won’t let me go anywhere near her. Ahh I would love kittens too. She is a real beauty.
LOL!!
What a charmingly cute post Shail!!
That cat will be featuring more often on this blog, I guess (going by its good looks and troublesome anctics 😉 )
Looking forward to more such posts!!
Cheers,
N
@momofrs,
Thanks Noorulayn 🙂 Yeah, I think I will have reason to write more about her. She has got a tomcat admirer now. The romance is on full swing!
people sure tread upon privacy of these poor animals… whats more they even interpret their thoughts… sigh 😛
@hitchy,
Hehehe… I am the stalker with the camera. Who will be my next victim??! 😆 BTW, we as a family are great ‘interpreters’ and even make up conversations for the animals and birds from their expressions. 😛
Nice to see you around after a long gap! 🙂
That’s a neat cat story followed by the Papparazi, hope you paid the model well in the end 🙂
@Chris,
Thanks Krishnan. This one and the tom cat make a beeline for my house in the morning during the exact time the fisher-woman is expected. 🙂 So the model gets paid before the shoot! 🙂
That’s neat, don’t expect any thanks from them though. One of my friends told me before the cats were used to be treated like royalty during the Pharaoh days and that they have never forgotten it 🙂
@Chris,
Looks like that’s true. The other day one of them was fast asleep on a chair that the L & M usually sits on. All that the tom cat did was look at him and say ‘meow’ (as if to say ‘go find yourself another chair!’) and promptly go back to sleep. 😆
LOL, I am reporting you to the CPF(Cat Police Force) for voilation of Privacy and will be suspending your camera license after confiscating it. 😉
Cute pics..and story…
@Rashmi,
OMG Rashmi, you traitor! *makes up mind to hide camera licence” Ha! Just try and confiscate! 😛 😛 😀 😀 😀
Thanks 🙂
LOLZZZZ 😀 … 😀
She’s real cute 😀
@Rajlakshmi,
Isn’t she?? 🙂
Ooh! The looks she’s giving in the 4th and last pics. Sure is a cat with attitude, Shail 😀
@Dreamer,
She sure has an attitude Dreamer! 😀
LOL. So well written, and I love the snaps !
@Ruchira Shukla,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you so much 🙂

Thank you Priya. Well, the cat is around. May be more stories will happen 🙂 🙂
Nice name for yourself – Shutterbug lady !!! 🙂
Cute cat…of course, he is cute in the pics..but in reality, I stay away from cats… 😉
@UmaS,
The name is thanks to Govind 🙂 Oh you are like Sourav then, no likee wee puddy cats?? 😛 😉
Ha ha ha!! Must say the cat is a stunner!
Brilliant narration as always, Shail. Thoroughly enjoyed the read 🙂
@Deeps,
She is Deeps! Thank you 🙂 🙂
Oh it is harmless and all very fine
shooting animals for blogs is benign
now that the canine has given way to the feline
who is next in the firing line?
@Govind,
Wait and see… err, you have already commented in the next post! 🙂
wow!
kitni pyari pusi cat hai ye 😀
@AS,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest. Hai na pyari?? 😀
yes! bahut hi pyari 🙂
@AS,
🙂
Wouldn’t it be aggravating if animals took pix of us as we were waking up? :o)
What were you saying about Princess Diane being catty? 🙂
You are indeed a wildlife writer.
She is a pretty cat, a pretty cat to snap.
🙂
@Bob Hoff,
Egad, I never thought of that. Of course it would be annoying to have animals take pics of us!
Princess Diana was hounded by paparazzi, like that cat in question is! 😛 Whats singular for paparazzi??
Yeah she is a pretty cat! 🙂
Nice snaps Shail. You did some paparazzi work . Loved it from the cat’s perspective. And loved the ‘shutterbag lady ‘.
Me also waiting for the monsoons to wear off. It seems nowadays we are having a whole year of monsoons and retreating monsoons and low pressure belts.
@Aswathy,
