While I weep…

I dug holes in the backyard
buried tiny chunks of me
and
over them planted shrubs
for you to see
Some parts are now missing
I am not whole
but
you would never know
of the hollow
for
the green leaves
the pretty flowers
will hold you in their spell
while I weep…

All yours…

I lay down my arms
The battle is lost
My allies are gone
I am left all alone
Hope was butchered
Spontaneity maimed
Dreams taken prisoners
Optimism retired hurt
A wry laughter rings
Pessimism sings
You win I lose
No need for coups
All that was mine
Is now yours
Why leave them behind
Take also these tears…

They…

I invite them my cheeks to smudge
They hide behind my eyes refusing to budge
Retreating to my throat they choke me
Settling their weight in my heart they mock me.

Arrears

I long to watch the rain fall in torrents
To gaze at dark clouds shedding copious tears
Maybe my dry eyes will learn a few tricks
How like them they can arrears release…

Frozen tears

Frozen tears cold as ice
clogging up ducts
too hard to flow
in warm rivulets
down alabaster cheeks
lightening grief
carefully padlocked
in iron chests
away from eyes
that probe and seek.
Frozen tears cold as ice
trapped powerless
struggling to flee
in tiny gasps
of shallow breath
through tinier gaps
cracks and fissures
in a door tightly shut
to ease a heart
bowed down with weight.
