Make hay while the sun shines, they say. They, whoever they are, are sound of logic, because that’s just what I am doing. Not literally of course. The sun is shining here and the California sky is as blue as I remember. I am going for my long walks, morning and evening.

If that isn’t making hay, then pray tell me what is?! Back home all I get to do is walk round and round the block, a luxury, by the way, that I am truly thankful for!

There’s not much to see in the late evenings other than occasional fur babies with their humans. But mornings are a different matter. The sky, the sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees, the grass, tiny birds (I hear them more than I see them) flitting around in the tall grass, water flowing in the canal (the ducks and egrets are missing though), cyclists whizzing past on the cycling track…
Since I don’t have my camera, I usually don’t dawdle. But the two tiny birds I saw in the grass today tempted me to stop and attempt to capture them with my phone. Not an easy task mind you, considering the thingamabobs are extremely alert to movements. Anyway, I managed.

Siri tells me these are chickadees. Black capped. What do you think?

As a bonus, I saw this other little thing hurrying across the pathway. The colours stood out. Once again Siri coming to my rescue, told me this here is a Salt Marsh Moth. Since I haven’t met one socially as yet (as Wodehouse would say), I’ll take Siri’s word for it.

What a fruitful day it has been! Walk done, two newbies met. Wonder what tomorrow holds?! 🤔

Good captures – and wonderful that you can walk in peace!
I hope you’re enjoying California! I’ve never been but always fancied it. Is it worth it or is India better? 😉
Well, it’s nice and orderly and clean. I love that. But I love Kerala and the rains too, in spite of the killing humidity! 😀
Those are definitely black capped chickadees, some of the most intelligent and interesting birds to watch. Enjoy your trip!
