Not a Raja Ravi Varma painting
Just a bird on a wire mimicking
Shakuntala’s stance
The backward glance
And from behind a raised wing my beau espying.
The story goes that the beautiful Shakuntala on the pretext of removing a thorn from her feet glanced backward to catch a glimpse of the handsome King Dushyanta. Raja Ravi Varma, the famed painter, has immortalized this scene in a beautiful painting.
That’s a Scaly-breasted Munia and I am definitely not buying its story. Not at all. The thingamabob was posing for my camera. 😉

Beautiful shot… Shail 🙂
Thank you, Sreejith 🙂
A much-loved legend of yore
Was dusted and dug out from the store
To caption this snap
Of a camera’s trap
The story unbought, it posed for her she swore!
Brilliant! 😀
I love the birds you post here, Shail! So many varied shapes and sizes and colours! Love your captions too!
I had the painting in my old house. It was beautiful!
Yes, that’s a beautiful paining of Raja Ravi Varma’s.
So many varieties of birds, so many more to click 🙂
