I am born
and reborn through eons
to quench my thirst
in your conviction.
Not abrupt moves,
not verbal ploys
only unadorned truth
rich feelings unhidden
flowing unbidden…
from an unclogged heart
expressed freely
courageously…..
I wield no power
over you,
circumstances are beyond me
so are you.
Yet, I shall return… in every life
searching with renewed hope
waiting in eternal patience
to reach the kernel through the husk.
I will be born
and reborn, through eons
till the day you hold my hand
look life in the eye and say (with conviction),
“We belong.”
– Shail Mohan (Nov 2010)
Words for this week: abrupt, kernel, wield
really well-done. Such feelings and emotions spring from your words. I truly liked this, start to finish.
@ThomG,
Thank you so much 🙂
Powerful, Shail! Loved it.
@Pallavi,
Thank you Pal 🙂
Awesome! Well done Shail!!!!
@DeeAnne,
Ohh… thank you so much DeeAnne! 🙂
Shail, I am stunned.
Just that.
Your prose, and short stories, your 55 ers, have always charmed, thrilled and excited. And they have made me laugh, and smile, and nod my head in such joy of empathy.
But it’s your verse I always come back to, for it seeps into me, it gives me a such a profound experience, as this one does. The conviction, that holds the most power, the knowing, the “kernel” of your writing, for me will always be the incredible and superlative quality of your poetry. It calls. It cries. It simply invites you in, and you cannot help but be drawn into it. It’s the simplicity, finally, of your words that gives us the intimacy of the experience.
Thank you,Shail, for that. I know I sound verbose, and probably like I’m going over the top, but, truly, that is how I feel!
I don’t love this. I’m love with this one!
@Usha–exactly, a greatdescription of Shail’s writing prowess!
🙂
@Usha,
This has been quite a late response for a variety of reasons, forgive me.
I am rendered speechless by your comment once again Usha. 🙂 Really overwhelmed. I always look forward to reading your comments (on all variety of posts), since you don’t hold back on your words and give me quite a feedback, sometimes a fresh outlook too. Appreciation does mean a lot to any writer, amateur or not and you give it with no restraint. Thank you so much 🙂
Simple and moving. Well written.
@Vivek,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you 🙂
Hi Shail,
As I read this, chills went tingling up and down my spine several times. So powerfully you write. So emotionally you write. So lovingly you write. A wonderful expression of a woman not afraid to say what she thinks.
The most amazing thing for me is how you reach these pinnacles of grace and passion and provocation of thinking in your writing on a regular basis.
I know you brighten my life and those of many others when you create depictions of such strong feelings. Of course, I have said this before but you are one of my writing heroines. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Bob
@Bob Hoff,
Dear friend, thank you for the LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY words of appreciation. 🙂 And I am thrilled, a ‘Writing Heroine’ eh??!! 😀 😀
As an earlier commentor said- very powerful! You have a wonderful gift of expression, Shail. So much meaning in so few words!
@manju,
Thank you so much Manju. It really means a lot when someone says, “So much meaning in so few words!” 😀 I usually like pretty long blogs 😛
I don’t know much poetry. But yours, I think touches the heart always…the way you express…how do you do it? Off the cough or do you keep thinking and rearranging words, I am curious, Shail.
Thank you.
@Sandhya,
Thank you Sandhya. To tell you the truth, I don’t know much about poetry myself, except for the fact that I enjoy reading some rare ones.
Hmmm… as for your question, mostly it is some feeling (my poems are mostly about feelings) looking for expression; a couple of lines might already have present themselves and I add to it, since what I want to say is already firmly ensconced in my mind. Yes, I do re-arrange, if I am not satisfied with the outcome.
But… most all of the quatrains have been written off the cuff. 🙂
On your blog after a long time and what a delightful piece of poetry greets me when I do so. The strength of your protagonist and her conviction reflects in these words.
@Samadrita,
I am so glad you wrote ‘the protagonist’ 😀 Usually people just assume its me 😉 😛 Yes, she is someone with strong convictions. 🙂
Superb writing! I could feel each letter of each word. You are truly gifted.

So when are you publishing??
@Deeps,
…and I am overwhelmed by your comment. One question though: Would you buy a book of poetry by me, IF I published?? *curious Shail* 🙂
@Shail, How can you even ask me that question, Shail?? IF you publish, the question of NOT buying the book doesnt arise for me. I will definitely definitely buy…I’d prefer a personally autographed copy of your book though ;)! So tell me, is something in the offing…now I’m curious 🙂
@Deeps,
Well, I was sending out feelers 🙂 to find if there are buyers for a book of poetry 😉 I will be only too glad to autograph it for you. *sighs* Lovely dream 😉
