Mothers Day is here. Paeans are being sung, odes getting composed, poems being written by most everyone to their mothers and to motherhood in general. Yes, Mothers deserve that and more, no denying the fact Yet I wonder how many have on this day paused to think of those children denied a mother’s love.

Oh I don’t mean those whose mothers have been snatched from them by the hands of Death itself. I am talking of those children who are deprived of the love of their living breathing Mother. I am referring to those forlorn ones whose hearts are filled with yearning for one loving word, who wait forever for that comforting hug that never seems to come their way.

Did you think all this came with a mother anyway?? You could not be more wrong. It’s something hard to believe, right?? Have you thought why some mothers are cruel, rude, jealous, not caring, indifferent, and hurtful?? I guess these are not adjectives you would associate with the word ‘mother.’ Caring, loving, compassionate, tender… Yeah, these seem better. Don’t they??

Yet spare a thought on this day for those unlucky ones, those unwanted children who know not what their crime is for which they are being punsihed. A mother’s hatred-filled look, taunting words, ridicule, uncaring attitude, neglect, sharp and belittling words…. The list goes on.

Those children wonder, Why?? Why?? Why??

Do you have an answer??

I know what the philosophers will say. It is karma. Yeah right! What else can explain this?? But do you think the little, tormented minds will understand this oh so grand explanation and feel pacified?? I wonder!

So on Mothers Day spare a thought not only for the orphans but also the ‘forced’ orphans of the world. You will find them around you. A smile, a hug, a kind word, a listening ear will go a long way for these lonely ones. All that I can tell such children is, to try and be strong. Try, try and try even harder to be strong. I know it’s tough. Be brave, be strong. From the fire emerge as purified gold. Always remember someone out there loves you. You will find that person soon enough …

Please, please don’t feel miserable and don’t feel alone. I am crying for all of you.
