Last week I saw a horrible show on Netflix.

Before someone asks me why I put myself through it, wasting precious time in the process, let me say this: if some people did not put themselves through difficult things, how the heck would others know enough not to choose them? Gotcha there, didn’t I?

I personally know some holier-than-thou types who’d sniff and look down their respective noses at me when I say things like I watched a useless show on OTT, or a movie, or some such. They’d then go on to say, “I never waste my time on such rubbish”—mind you, this is without even knowing why I found the show not to my taste.

How’s that for being judgmental too, to boot?

I have also noticed a curious thing. When I get a friendship request on social media from someone I don’t immediately recognise, but who seems to be friends with people I know, naturally I ask those known friends about the unknown ones. How they are connected, for example.

Most, I admit, will give me a straightforward answer. It could be that they are related, colleagues, neighbours, or sometimes even perfect strangers who got to know each other through activities on the net.

Here’s the funny part, though. Some don’t have a clue who I am talking about, even though they are supposedly “friends” on one platform or another.

Did your eyes pop out?

I generally roll mine at such people.

Anyways…

There are ALSO those who will, in exactly this situation, go all high and mighty on me and reply that THEY would NEVER add ANYONE they have NOT MET PERSONALLY.

The implication is obvious: I am stupid.

Perhaps I am. I do have tons of friends I have never met. They are fellow bloggers or readers of my blog from beyond the borders of my state, and sometimes even my country. I don’t regret being friends with them at all.

The point here is not whether one should or shouldn’t add people one hasn’t met personally. The point is, why act all superior because of a simple question like, “How do you know So-and-so?”

There! Now you obviously think I have gone bonkers, veering off topic like that.

I haven’t really, you know.

I was just trying to illustrate how people scoff at you for no reason at all. Sometimes for asking about people; at other times for watching a horrible show to the end because, of course, they wouldn’t do such a thing.

Now that we are back to the topic I started with, let me get back to the horrible show I watched.

I don’t know what the writer was thinking when he wrote it. In fact, I have a serious doubt that there ever was a writer at all. Maybe some people just got together for drinks and started filming while still under the influence of whatever they were mixing.

There’s a detective who actually pulls his father into solving a case. True, the father is an ex-detective himself, who has been kicked off the force for not doing things according to the book. But to drag the father along to the scene of the crime, and even share evidence with him…

Dude! Why not go and bond outside office hours?

If that wasn’t enough, the story starts with the premise that one chap is taking revenge for something that happened—like someone not responding to his call for help.

So what does he do?

Kill all the patrolmen who are now responding.

OMG! Like, what the heck?

The killer doesn’t even try to get to the top man—the one who wilfully did not send the help needed. Instead, he is out there stringing up the severed heads of every innocent person who turns up in response to calls.

Now the question DOES arise: why did I watch it to the end, all the while hitting my forehead with my open palm in despair at the complete lack of logic?

I didn’t stop because I was fascinated to see just how far the makers would go in showing absolute balderdash on screen.

The L&M, meanwhile, blissfully slept through more than half the show.

And I watched.

To the bitter end.

Because, you see, somebody has to suffer through these things so that the rest of us know better.
