This year the rains have been late. Now that they are here, it is like they are compensating for their tardiness. One moment we were worrying about there not being enough water in the reservoirs and the next we hear they are overflowing to capacity.

Such is life, I guess.

People (including myself) were complaining about the too warm weather and the unbearable humidity, and the next thing you know they (Not me though!) are bemoaning the wet days. I am happy about the rains living as I am in my cosy home. But things are not as easy for those whose living conditions are not the same. Then there are those whose very livelihood is affected by the constant rain. It is up to all of us as a society to see to their welfare.

Rain is undeniably an integral and necessary part of our life, even of those who are affected adversely by it. It is also integral for the flora and fauna around us to thrive. So rain it must, however inconvenient it is for us. Waterlogged roads, getting sprayed by speeding vehicles, dripping umbrellas, wet clothes sticking to our bodies, muddy shoes, clothes that never feel completely dry and have a musty smell, moss everywhere and snails feeding on them, constant power failures… we have to endure them all so that life can renew itself.

The freshly washed greenery is a mood elevator. The achingly beautiful green against the drab grey skies is a sight I can never tire of however many times I see it. People tell me the grey dampens their spirits, makes them feel gloomy. It lifts my spirits and makes it soar in pure joy. The moisture laden clouds hanging low overhead fills my heart with inexplicable joy every single time.

By the way, did I tell you I was born on a rainy night? That probably explains my love for rains. 😉
