Onions in a basket
Waiting to be picked
Top knots and tails neatly cut
Thoroughly skinned
Coarsely chopped
Or sliced into rings
Probably diced
Or merely minced
Fried in a wok
Boiled in a pan
Or simply steamed in a cooker
In the company of friends
Dense broccoli, smooth zucchini
Glamorous greens, tender beans
Carotene rich grated carrots
Crisp cabbages in thin strips
Everything together
Served on a platter
Spiced (or not) to the hilt
And salted (or not) to the gills
Onions in a basket
Waiting, to fulfil destiny
Satiate hunger
Make the taste linger longer…
