The other day standing out on the balcony I was all of a sudden hit by this overpowering love for my darling Luci. It happens often enough, and when it does I chirp in a singsong voice strictly reserved for her, my canine baby (my human ones are no longer babies and have flown the nest). The lyrics (of the chirping) are a mishmash of sorts of the following:
Olle olle Luci, ooloolompop, populi uli, buskiiiii, luchi muchi, chweetie-pie, achukudu-ammakudu-molukudu, loosi moosi goosi and more on similar lines.
After a couple of ‘songs’ had been ‘sung’, I paused for breath and turning around found a couple walking down the road eyeing me. The stuffed frog look they sported, especially the eyes trying hard not to bulge out of the sockets and failing, revealed all to me: they had heard me and were thinking unkind thoughts. Omg, she’s cuckoo!
Just about then Luci majestically rose on her hind legs to stand at the half wall, displaying her magnificent Labradorian head with the soft silky ears, moist brown nose and melting golden yellow eyes, not to leave out the pearly white canines glinting in the evening light and the soft pink tongue with a drop of drool at its tip waiting for gravity to take over. In a flash, realization dawned on the faces below and they relaxed. Of course, a dog!
Phew. Luci’s timely appearance saved the day for me, or else my reputation would have been in tatters. 😉

I can imagine! Talking to dogs and cats is my nature too, though not singing!
I can well imagine that too 🙂
Reblogged this on Luci the dog.
I don’t usually sing to my dog, black lab, Penny in public but she does get kisses. Dog people are just different and since I am surrounded by them, I never think their behavior is odd.

//Dog people are just different// That says it all, thank you 😀
Lovely, singing to your canine baby. When love calls, we have to go with it, despite the strange looks from people. Still … glad Luci’s appearance saved the day for you. 🙂
Great post. Thank you.
Hehe.. not that I mind what people think 😉 Thank you 🙂
Baby-talk she sang, she said
They thought, soft in the head
Then Luci rose
Herself shows
Dread from faces fled!
Wah, wah! applause
Lucciiii mooochhiii, your Momma has company!
Almost all the students and vets at the University Hospital, that I take my brood to, are constantly staring at each other, probably grinning at my foolish baby talk, as I jabber endlessly till the examination, treatment, is over 🙂
AT home toh, it’s even worse 😛
I knew it! Hi 5, Usha! ❤ 😀
I always say that I got a dog so that people wouldn’t know I’m talking aloud to myself.
That’s a good one! 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and welcome to Shail’s Nest 🙂
Haha! Good timing, Luci! Also, people should sing more silly songs and judge strangers less.
Absolutely with you on that 😀 Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you 🙂
I used to do that with Puchhu(my canine baby) too..so many songs. I miss her, though my baby girl has almost all her traits, and even responds to Puchhu. 😊
That’s so cute! Hehe..
Ha — what would they think of me because I speak to the guinea pig like that!
Great timing, Luci! And that’s a beautiful shot of her, Shail. 🙂
Well a dog will always save you just in time when you need it most. But I have heard ppl sing to themselves before…didn’t know it was considered “cuckoo”.
Me wanna listen to the “chirping in a singsong voice ” of the pet mom 😀
So so cute…Luci girl, you saved your momma in time 😀
But you know Shail, I still cuddle my girls like that…sometimes 😉
Aww… So cute, you are!
That’s funny! I think those of us with pets (or who had them) completely understand. Lovely Luci!
Everyone should appreciate nature in such a joyous way… And I talk baby talk and do the voices for my kids’ dolls and stuffed animals. (Some have foreign accents.) I could say it’s to entertain the kids but since I did it before I had kids……
