I remember someone asking a question, rhetorical of course, on Twitter some years back. Why do people always click (and share) flower pictures? It was followed up with: If only one looked around, there are so many other worthy subjects.

That made me think. Worthy subjects there might be. But aren’t flowers pretty and eyecatching? ? They grab your attention with their bright colours and shapes. Besides they are also the best subjects to newbies starting out on photography to practice on, because they always stay put. Unlike the thingamabob with wings. The bees and butterflies need to flit around. The birds are always flying up and away if you know what I mean.

Well, to be truthful there indeed are other things that stay still too. Like the sunset, trees, buildings, rocks, grass, mountains, a book, a cofffee mug and more such inanimate objects in and around the house and so on. But frankly, would you be surprised or blame someone if they started off with flowers or even stuck to flowers as their main subject?

Be kind to people who want to do their own thing, especially so when you are an experienced photographer. Not everyone has reached where you are. And why can’t people do what pleases them as opposed to what pleases you? In short, let the flower-clickers be. You do you and let them be them. There’s space in this world for all of us.

And in that vein, here I am sharing pictures of some flowers I clicked outside the California Academy of Sciences.

Indian Blanket
Rosemary
Busy Lizzie
Daisy
Sea Lavender
Yarrow

Aren’t they a sight for sore eyes? I have more to share from other places too. But that’s for another day 🙂
