Next in the mission, of seeing places closer home, came the hill station, Ponmudi. The last time I had been there was more than three decades back. There were none of the buildings that you now see. It was just the peaks and the visitors.
The name Ponmudi means the Golden (pon) Peak (mudi). Of course until and unless you see the sun rise over the mountains, bathing the peaks in golden hues, the meaning of its name is lost. Unfortunately I have not yet seen the sunrise at Ponmudi myself, having always reached there well into the day, and returning by evening.
With the road twisting and turning all the way, with 22 hair-pin bends in the short route, the drive that is thrilling for most becomes a nightmare for me. But I was determined to make it. I mean all I had to do was sit in the car and feel sick and miserable, right? The scenic splendor of the place more than made up for it, though. So, for this Foto Friday, here are some pictures from Ponmudi.
