About Moi

ShailHi! This is Shail, your friendly neighborhood homemaker.

I stumbled upon the net one fine day a few years back and have felt like Alice in Wonderland ever since. An incurable romantic at heart, I blog, read, listen to music, and play sudoku, apart from my good old ‘homemaking’ duties of taking care of three Martians, a dog, sundry cats and kittens that enter and exit my life at will. Nothing extraordinary about that, right? …and yet, like the ketchup ad goes, I am different. Keep that in mind when you read what I write.

Irreverent is my middle name. I question anything and everything. Period. That things have been practiced for eons is not good enough reason for me that they be considered sacred and followed to the letter. On the contrary. Probably sheep with herd mentality are the only ones who follow without thinking, questioning. Since I am no sheep, you will find ideas expressed here that go against the popularly accepted ones set out by society.

But that’s only occasional. Most of the time I am looking at life through a mirror that makes everything look out of shape and funny. It may not be everyone’s brand of humor. But hey, to each their own.  I also write absolutely sad drivel in the name of poetry. Be warned. For those brave souls who can stomach such stuff: Take a look at Words in verse… my poetry blog.

A warning: Anyone who interacts with me beware! I most definitely will use the conversations with you in my posts if the topic so demands. Of course, anonymously. So it is now up to you whether you would like to interact with me or not. I have had friends turn foes just because I used conversations we have had as a starting point of a post, a part of it or sometimes just as humor. I have also had friends who have understood this approach of mine perfectly too. I have always protected the identity of the persons concerned and will do so in the future too.

A note: NO, I was never an English Literature student, but am a post graduate in Economics. So you might find mistakes in my written work. My apologies.

  1. Your migration to this new domain looks good. The look & feel is very neat and attractive with a simple look approach avoiding jazzy looks.

  2. I love your About Moi 🙂 You. All the way 🙂 Stay that way…. 🙂

    • It’s hard how the world around you tries so hard to not let you stay that way; but guess what, I try even harder to stay that way 😉 Thank you Usha 🙂

  3. Love this ‘very to the point’ intro! Shail have you not synced this blog to FB? I didnt see any update, so wondering. Its been a while since I have opened my reader( and now it has reached a stage of a dreadful prospect 😛 ) so FB is what I rely on to read your posts. Hence asked :0

  4. Love your new home in the blogosphere!! Welcome to wordpress 🙂

  5. Hi,
Just stumbled upon your blog, and I realise you have a fantastic blog and good content – I like the style you write in and for sure will be coming back more regularly.

  6. Awarded. Again 🙂 Here…

    Added to the Mantelpiece are…

  7. Great to come across your blog – I enjoyed several of your posts whilst surfing here and will look forward to more to come. Best wishes from a neighbour in Bangladesh 🙂

  8. Hi Shail,
I love you for being you. Stay that way. It is worth all the effort. I will be following your blogs.

    • Thank you Bhagi 🙂 I agree, it is worth the effort to be yourself, though sometimes it really becomes tough. I appreciate your words 🙂

      • Shail, I do understand how tough it can be, especially in a country like India where everyone (far and near) has a say in other’s lives. But vocal people like you are an inspiration to other women. Keep up the good work!

  9. What a beautiful nest you have here….you quote friends…hey its a dream come true..quote me please even if under some not worthy of mention comments list….
and please do not protect my identity..I am not in any witness protection programme 😆
    hugs 🙂

    • Welcome to Shail’s Nest Soma. I am glad you decided that the Tiger’s tummy was no place for you 😉
I’ll keep your offer in mind 😀 And I am chuckling at the, ‘I am not in any witness protection programme’ 😉 As a writer you know how it is. Sometimes something someone (that’s three ‘some’ in a row!) says gives you an idea for a post. And when it is all written, you have people standing outside your blog door with swords and other dangerous weapons, “I thought we had finished talking on this!” or “I thought we parted on good terms” or “I thought… (insert appropriate words)”. Pisses me off. What the heck, I want to write on the topic and just used the conversation to convey a point. Is that so difficult for them to understand? *rolls eyes* That’s the story behind this. 😀

  10. You have been tagged :D!!! Shail, you’ll love doing it, since you’re not in any witness programme either :P, as Soma has said 🙂

    The Elevenses. Tag 🙂

  12. I love your middle name-irreverent 🙂
I loved your writing style shail-it is so logical and hence, makes sense! I am blogrolling you. Hope that is fine 🙂

    • Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you Mypunchingbag (now that’s a mouthful!) for blogrolling. Honored. 🙂 Much obliged for the ‘so logical’. I’d like to believe I am indeed so 🙂 The ‘illogical’ comes through only when writing verse! 😉

  13. Hi,
I am MANOJ KUMAR YADAV , i am having a keen interest into three things- Spritualism, Writing and Activism. I want to discuss you at many issues related to Indian Family, Indian Marriage, Alternative way of living, Writing of fiction and short stories and analytical thinking and so-on.
You can see my short profile and some bit of analytical writing on my blog- ‘think2makechange@blogger.com.’
Allthough, this blog is not representing me in letter and words, because most of my writing is in Hindi and not put on that page so-far. But, you can guess about my depth of thinking from that page.
Afterall, we can make a discussion forum and more to do somethink grand and creative.
if you are interested into my proposal, then send me a short message for the same.

  17. Hi Shail, liked what i read in about section. I’m learning English and the best way to learn is to write. I would like to read more of your posts. Thanks for visiting my site.

    • Welcome to Shail’s Nest Indira. I hope you are reading books, that helps too in learning. I loved the poem of yours. Will drop in again 🙂
      Always welcome here 🙂

  18. very you:)

  19. A post graduate student in economics! Poor you! I will have to follow your blog to see how you survive.
(Tongue is in cheek, I spent four college years majoring in economics only to discover not too many years afterward that I was always an English major at heart!)

    • Welcome to Shail’s Nest T2T 🙂 That was pretty long back that I studied Economics. I have been a homemaker for the past 30 years and Economics been left behind for good 😉
And yeah I agree 100% with you. I am an English major at heart too. Discovered it just like you!

      • I too was more inclined towards English but was made to do Economics as “it would fetch me a job”. I never worked after marriage and it is 30 years now. I might as well have done a masters in English. At least I would have enjoyed it. The subject “Economics” seemed to make parents feel secure for our future

  45. Dear Shail,

Hope you’re doing well. It was great reading your blog on feminism. Your style of writing is very intriguing and at the same time very informative.

We are currently working on building websites with content which isn’t readily available in India. Content which is engaging, which brings new ideas and works for our new ‘internet generation’.

We have three websites so far:

A website related solely to feminism issues in India. (www.feminismindia.com)
BuzzFeed style website where we give concise information – this covers all topics, news, sports, bollywood, tech etc. (www.timechor.in)
A travel website where we showcase the beauty of India.(www.pathsofindia.com)

I feel you can be a great asset to our team. Please let me know if you would like to join us in our venture and we can discuss further.

    Regards

    Divyendu
