An observation.
Whenever a woman, who can no longer call herself young, talks of pursuing a new hobby, wears something of her choice that’s different from the traditional, expresses a wish to cut or color her hair (and more in the same vein), those around her, including members of her ‘loving’ family, are quick to say this:
“You are now TOO OLD for these sort of things!”
But. There’s always a but, you bet.
When the said woman spends more and more time time doing the same old housework she has been doing from when she had been decades younger, no one so much as turns a hair. In fact, if she were to complain of aches and pains, or tiredness, how she thinks she is getting on in years, they smile dismissively, and without batting an eyelid send her off for another cup of tea/coffee plus some snacks too, if you please, with these words:
“Of course, not! You are still so young!”
Methinks, how can the same person be thought to be both young and old all at once? And there is this too: Why is she considered young when it comes to work, and old when she wants to follow her heart?
Irony, much?
Or should that be ‘Selfishness, much’?
Personally, I think the latter.

Self-centredness, more like.
Selfishness, indeed.
Sadly true, Shail – and yet when a Hollywood star is about to become a father for the first time at almost 80 years old, everyone says, “Atta boy!” All the more reason to pursue your dreams, no matter what your age, so hopefully this attitude will become a thing of the past.
World is like this .. we need to change !
No one is too young or too old to do anything !! People need to step out of their closeted doors !
In our house, the spouse is in favour of having a live-in help whenever asked to do anything around the house!!! I end up slogging far more than I’d like to because as of now I cannot dream of having someone sharing my space all the time. The only time I was told I was too old to do something was when I wanted a bicycle for my 60th birthday. The spouse is mortally afraid of my breaking any more bones, so that was a big NO.
Cracking up but this is SO true. Included in that is the “you are too old/young to wear that” argument, too.
Its the same with parents. We are good responsible ‘adults’ when we do what they want. Thoughtless thankless newgen immature ‘kids’ (even at age 31) when we decide to not marry or go for a trip.
You’re old enough to do what you want and to hell with the rest of them😂
There is that! 😀
