A story in five sentences.
Her neighbors found the old woman lying unconscious beside the pond where she had gone to wash clothes as was usual, and rushed her to the nearest hospital.
The children were sent for and arrived promptly. Their decision was unanimous, she had to sell the land on which stood her modest mud dwelling with the thatched roof, and move in with one of them.
She agreed, happy at the thought of spending the rest of her days with one or other of her children than on her own in the village.
What she hadn’t bargained on was having to turn into a wage laborer in her old age for meeting the cost of her expenses soon after the children had squandered her money.
