What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie McFerrin posts a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate can write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in the five sentences, and is just for direction. This week: HORIZON.

 

Her smile did not waver one bit and so he did not notice the light vanish from her eyes and the glassy look come on the moment he spread the brochures on the table.

We were supposed to go together, share the joy of discovery and make our choices, her heart cried.

Unaware, he enthusiastically explained to her the finer points of the holiday package being offered by the travel agency that he had discussed at length with the agent.

Her heart sinking she realized that nothing had changed in spite of all her efforts, she was still the inconsequential ‘infant’.

Through the window, the horizon she had hoped to fly away to looked red like her bleeding heart, and somehow all blurred.
