What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie McFerrin posts a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate can write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in the five sentences, and is just for direction. This week: DARKNESS.
She stood with the receiver of the phone pressed to her ear, listening to the litany of complaints with a resigned air as she had done n number of times before.
But today, the venom-filled tirade seemed to cross the barrier of her eardrum into her body more easily, contaminating every cell, plunging her into the darkness of despondency.
“Enough,“ she screamed involuntarily, “not another word do I want to hear!”
“Are you there?” asked the puzzled voice at the other end, waking her from her fleeting reverie.
“Yes,” she replied meekly, slipping back into the dismal role of the ever available ‘listener’, deeply regretful that she could not have spoken the words out loud.
