Jealousy has an acrid stench to it that makes you reel when it assails your nostrils.
I steadied myself and unobtrusively scrutinized the face across mine, a face I have known for as long as I have lived, a face which was now positively glowing with happiness and pride.
She bent forward to hug me whispering, “Well done, baby!” and it hit me again, over and above the heady scent she had dabbed all over herself.
The green-eyed monster’s presence was now a certainty.
Suddenly the trophy in my hand felt like dead-weight, and I wished with all my heart that I had never bowed to my mother’s wishes and set out to live her dreams.

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie McFerrin posts a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate can write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in the five sentences, and is just for direction. This week: WISHES

Mixed feelings here…profound write Shail. She was not only forced to comply to her mom’s wishes but she excel in it. Bitter sweet.
shail said:
Yes, she excelled only to be envied for precisely that.

Not a comfortable position to be in. Sigh, why couldn’t she be happy for her daughter? Genuinely so, I mean. Lovely take, Shail.
