I clutched at the nearby door frame staring in shocked amazement as the solid brick and mortar house that Krishna and I called our home swayed this way and that, light as a feather in the wind.
Didn’t they feel it, the silent people with long faces, thronging my home, whose combined weight did not seem to make any difference in stabilizing it?!
I closed my eyes in helplessness as wave after wave of nausea hit me, wishing that Krishna was here to moor the house and steady it, but Krishna lay in the icy waters of the river in the deep gorge where his car had fallen when it swerved off the narrow bridge.
A butterfly touch forced me to open my eyes to find two tiny pairs of anxious eyes looking at me intently, searchingly.
Then I heard with distinct clarity the loud clatter of the sheer mass of anchor settling into place, steadying things, and realized with surprise that I was now what anchored.

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie McFerrin posts a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate can write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in the five sentences, and is just for direction. This week: ANCHOR.

Love the story very beautifully etched, every word that is compelling and a thrilling end. That’s what brilliant stories are made of, Shail:)
