He sat up in bed, remnants of sleep still clinging to him when his eyes fell on a shiny rod-like object on the floor by the door.

Curious, he slid off the bed, and waddled over.

When he bent to pick it up, it quickly curled itself around his arm startling him.

He let out a bloodcurdling scream waking his mother, who switched on the light and rushed to him.

The thin strip of light on the floor, that had crept into the darkness of his room through a gap in the door, dissolved and disappeared in the bright light that now filled the room, like his fears in his mother’s arms.
