I am a bit late, but what the heck, now that I have written it, I might as well post it! Constant power failure and quirky internet connection have been dodging my every step today. But here I am beating all odds to finally post the five sentence story. Here goes:

She felt furious at the bad name they had earned her and decided today had to be THE day, whatever the consequences may be.

Determinedly she walked to the shop at the corner, paid the shopkeeper and gingerly took the packet he gave her, stuffing it in her jute carry bag, well away from the vegetables.

Late night, when all her work was done and she was sure her husband and children were asleep, she took the packet out, did what had to be done, and with a sigh tinged with regret, already getting teary eyed, lay herself down.

When her husband and children woke the next morning, they found her in the kitchen, gasping for breath.

Even in her difficulty she smiled with pride, pointing triumphantly at the dead roaches she had swept to a corner, killed one and all by the spray, thus effectively clearing her name as an efficient housewife.

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie McFerrin posts a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate can write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in the five sentences, and is just for direction. This week: FURIOUS
