– a 55 word story
A thousand mice were gnawing his insides.
He stared with distaste at his lunch-box.
No fried stuff, sweets, or salt were the doctorβs orders. Damn.
At this rate stress would get him earlier, he thought as he bent over the figures.
Big fat samosas and juicy jelebis had begun their intricate dance steps to entice.
The prompt words for the week: figure, stress, juicy
That looks like my diet and me going drool drool on those goodies!!
@Nanka,
Lol, and are the goodies dancing for you?? π
Fantastic opening line – maybe it is true that diets cause more stress than eating a little of what you fancy..Jae
@Jae Rose,
Thank you π I do feel we end up thinking of just those things that we are not supposed to have. Not always perhaps, but most times π
Ooooh…….drooling!
@Writerzblock,
π
Oh, those damned diets. I’m sure they have been the death of a lot of good people. Very clever write up about the problem.
@Altonian,
Thank you π Lol, diets sure are death in a different way of course! π
Oh, those damned diets – I’m sure they have been the death of a lot of good people. Very good write-up on the problem.
Samosa is one of my favorite things…and I am sure never being able to eat it would cause terrible stress.
@Indian Homemaker,
Lol, a samosa fan eh?? π
I’ll remember this the next time I’m indulging my sweet tooth. Stress avoidance. Love you for that excuse. π
My 3WW: The Good Life
@Grandma’s Goulash,
Lol. Glad I could provide you with an excuse! π
oh i haven’t eaten and that sounds so tasty… great use of this week’s prompt…
@ms pie,
Thank you π They are tasty. Though jelebis are a bit too sweet for my taste. π
lovely 55er – Oh I wld kill for some big fat somosas and juicy jalebis !
@Ruchira,
Ahh, the 55-er is about someone like you then! π
hahahaha…good one!
@Scorpria,
Thank you π
Oh how I have been there before! You capture the feelings and agonizing temptations perfectly!
@Kimberly,
Thank you π Many of us have been I guess. Frankly, not me, not yet anyways! π
Poor guy!
@Kim Nelson,
Yeah, poor man indeed. π
To be not able to eat
what you like is a feat
but when confronted with such treat
I’d be happy with my resolve’s defeat.
@Govind,
Okay, will keep samosas and jelebis ready for you for whenever you decide to visit. π
Shail,
Great story–short but packed with description. Why are we so drawn to what is bad for us?!!
@Nico,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you π
I wonder too, why indeed?!!
Awww…definitely a fun read! Makes me want to watch my diet (but not yet.) heehee
@RJ Clarken,
Thank you. Not yet eh?? Good for you! π
Were you writing about me?
How close this story is to my predicament!
My only crime is that I am a food lover, with a sweet tooth inherited through the genes.
Extenuating circumstances that I can quote in defence are that I don’t have diabetes or blood pressure but merely a slightly oversized but entirely forgivable waistline that I take care to hide by the simple expedient of wearing an oversized Tee shirt.
The cruel wife at home uses the angioplasty done on me last year and the overcautious cardiologist’s advice to deny me all the goodies in the kitchen and hides them in secret containers kept inside other containers with incorrect labels, arrayed inconveniently in the upper shelves behind the front rows smugly believing I don’t know where they are hidden.
Sigh! No samosas and jalebis for me! Let me content myself with these three literary goodies from you this week and see what I can cook up with them.
Here goes:
Using the quoted figure the wily statistician could not resist the temptation to stress the juicy conclusion he had cleverly reached.
@G Vishwanath,
Welcome back. Good to see your long comments π
So you have a sweet tooth. I used to, miraculously as it would seem, I don’t , not any more. Haha how well I know the secret containers and the innovation needed to spirit them away in places not so obvious. I am of course speaking of hiding goodies from the monkeys… errr sons of mine. But poor misguided me only found empty containers even in those places I thought were most secure! Lol, I used to hide them inside the grinder. One place they never ever managed to find! π
That’s a good one from you, using the prompt words π
Diets ugh!Well done you really get across how distasteful and hard it is to stay on one.
@Sheilagh Lee,
Thank you. It is hard when you have to stay away from whether it is you want to gorge on isn’t it?? π
Well, done with the prompts, I enjoyed reading this.
Unfortunately, I start my diet tomorrow π¦
@Ren,
Awww… I feel for you! π
Can be my story of so many days .. loved reading this .. tempted by jAaleebi now !
@Nimue,
Ahhh, you love jalebis! π I’d rather go for the samosas π
hits so many of us close to home lol
I am on a constant battle – unfortunately cheesecake and pasta are my favorite things. I have been walking for the last few years – at least two miles a day. That seems to be the only thing that works for me. I plug in the ear buds and go – good for stress too so I like to think I am killing two birds with one stone π
Great use of the prompts!
@Dee,
Walking sure is a stress-buster and apparently good for burning up those calories too. π So just keep walking and enjoy the pasta and cheesecake too π
LOL !!! Thats why I hate strict diets….to begin with, they shld restrict the bad sort of food. Once u stop eating what u love (even though its bad for health), a craving begins building and one day we’ll end up hogging it totally. So, its better to eat in moderation all the time.
But I liked the line – where a 1000 mice gnawed the insides….he he he…. π
@UmaS,
We start thinking of that which we cannot eat. Right?? Better to eat in moderation than to cut it all out completely and invite stress π
