– a 55 word story
The gait was unmistakable. It was him. I nudged Rinky and took aim.
We cackled at the comical look of surprise on his face. The ripened tomatoes had found their mark unerringly.
So did the cane that Dad held. It looked like the old gardener had seen us filch his precious tomatoes and had tattled.

The words this week: gait, nudge, ripen.
I loved the short story you created with these words – wonderful!
@Sweetest in the Gale,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thank you π
And they got their comeuppance. Serves them right, I think.
@ThomG,
Yeah π
Delightful!
@Tumblewords,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest and thanks π
Frankly you don’t look the type
who would stoop to settle her gripe
by taking carefully aimed snipe.
BTW can ripened be used instead of ripe? π
@Govind,
Hullo! Don’t look for me in what I write. Give me due credit for my imagination please π π
They were ‘ripened’ especially for the purpose the brats had at hand Govind π
hehe, I’m hooked by any poem which features ripe tomatoes! π Great job.
@Thomma Lyn,
Thanks. Are tomatoes your favorite?? π
@Shail, I sure do. I love to garden, and there’s nothing better than homegrown tomatoes. π
@Thomma Lyn,
That’s nice π
Nice one!
@Piyu,
Thanks Piyu π
LOL!
@Phoenixritu,
π
I hope next time the gardener is the target.
@Vivek,
You bet they have him next in line! π

@Deborah,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest Deborah and thank you π
:D.The poor things! Being caned for tomatoes!
@Dreamer,
For stealing them. You know, I was thinking of him on the lines of Thilakan. Remember him as that strict grandpa trying to discipline a bunch of naughty grandchildren?? I have forgotten the name of the movie. If I am not mistaken its Minnaram π
This was great! Poor we ones; sometimes you can’t get away with being naughty.
@VL Sheridan,
Thanks, you are kind. I found your story really beautiful. π
LOL!
I loved this!
baton of time
@gautami tripathy,
Thank you π
Hi Shail.. I loved this take on prompts.. very interesting and nostalgic too.. and hey.. thanks a lot for your encouraging visits to my poage..will be following you hereafter..
@Ramesh Sood,
You are welcome and thanks for the honor. I noticed that you have done more with the same prompts and I liked them all. π
hats off to your imagination ! π writing a 55-er with those three words is really tough ! Poor guy; what did he actually do to get that on his face ? did he, like, sing or something ? π
@vimmuuu,
Ahhh someone accepted its my imagination! π Hahaha.. I wonder what exactly that guy did. I can think of quite a few things that deserves a tomato face! π Yeah singing is one of them. But errr… tell me, how do you know?? Did you have a tomato thrown at you?? Err… sorry just kidding. For all I know you are a pretty good singer! π π

Little hard for me to understand.
Sorry but new on 55 fiction.
Happy Blogging !
@Abhishek,
Welcome to Shail’s Nest. The story is actually quite simple. Two naughty kids stole tomatoes and threw it at someone against who they must have had a grudge. Their father came to know about it and gave them one with the cane. That’s all π
And Congrats to you for Blogadda’s Selection for this post.
@Abhishek,
Thank you π
yes, congrats on winning award, Shail. I confess also to having a hard time to understanding this story. But that isn’t your fault.
It’s amazing that you can exercise that discipline within 55 words with three required words.
Simply amazing…
Still thinking about upcoming blog. Wonder if I should use imagination or journalist-historical-literary approach? Or just put it in an ode format to my very special blog friend?
Certainly will need more that 55 words.

Wonder if I should compose in NM or SF?
@Bob Hoff,
Bob, you are pulling my leg!! π
And wow wow. I can’t wait to read the blog you are planning to do.
Pssst! What’s NM and SF?? Does SF stand for San Francisco??
@Shail, Yes, I am. To be honest, I feel “mentally dull” that I can’t quickly grasp what is going on in this story, while others are readily understanding, so I guess I might be using a little splotch of self-humor to cover my perceived deficiency. Men–how can anyone ever really understand them.
And now I am thinking–can I write a blog worthy of her? Men–how can anyone ever really understand them. (2)
NM is New Mexico and you got SF o(**M**)o
“Four eyes” above.
We three are excited for trip. Darren has been in SF for four days to finalize where he and Jimi are staying and to look for Jimi’s school. He flies ti NM Tues for some meetings, then we three fly to SF Fri morning.
Any SF “must-see” or “must-do” or “must eat at” places in SF, Shail?

@Vibhuti B,
Hello Vibhs. Nice to see you here π Thank you so much for the wishes. Glad you liked it π
Caning by parents..hmmm
@Reema,
I am sure it was only a light one, to get it across to the children that they cannot steal tomatoes and throw them at people. π
