The rescue
She frantically punches buttons on her cell phone and impatiently waits for the phone to be picked up at the other end. And when it is, the following conversation ensues.
She: (anxiously) Where are you??
He: On my way home…
She: I know that. Where have you reached??!
He: (names a place 7-8 kms away from home)
She: (with urgency) Ok ok. But come QUICKLY!!
He: (now quite alarmed) Why! What’s the matter??
She: (shuddering) There’s a lizard in the refrigerator!!!
He: Whaaat?? HAHAHAHAHA!!
She: (giggling nervously) It jumped in from the top door when I opened the fridge. (adds peevishly) Why did it have to jump IN?? Couldn’t it have jumped OUT?? Stupid thing!!
He: (guffaws again) HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
She: (giggles nervously again while peering into the refrigerator from a distance of about 4-5 feet, poised for instant flight in case the lizard with the ‘your-fridge-is-also-my-fridge’ mentality made a sudden appearance)
He: (gallantly) Ok ok, don’t worry, I am coming!!
She sighs in relief, switches off the phone and patiently awaits the modern day Knight on the Fiero to come to the rescue of the damsel put in distress by lizards that are miserable failures when it comes to using their internal navigation system in the right manner while moving around especially in those human households inhabited by lizardo-phobic damsels. By the way, no prizes of course for guessing the identity of either the Knight or the Damsel in Distress.

Ha ha! I hate lizards too. Cant’ stand the sight of them. So did the Damsel finally get out of distress?

Me: Maddy, living with me is one whole round of adventures with the reptiles,insects and rodents!
So the Knight-minus-armor gets plenty of opportunity to laugh at my expense!!

the Knight seems to be the very picture of nobility
slaying …chasing away lizards and other such creatures
Me: Yep Indy, the knight is gallantry personified. What would I do without him?? There was a mouse that had wandered into my house and the knight sprang into action. Not once has he said ‘Don’t be silly! Why should anyone be afraid of these insects and reptiles??’ His only objection is to the shriek emitted in high decibels (albeit involuntarily let me hasten to add) by moi. What will the neighbors think?? he worries. Oh hell, they’d probably think I am shrieking. what else??

To save the damsel in distress from her plight
comes the dragon slayer our hero the knight
for the lizard it would have been quite a fright
and for the family a story that will always delight.

I left the refrigerator door open till the knight-minus-armor reached home hoping better sense would prevail and the lizard would leave aside higher aspirations of living in A/C accommodation and settle instead for the non A/C ones they have been living in till date. So it did not get frozen.

Lizards, though horrible looking, very much useful and un-harming. Once you remove the misunderstandings about them then there is no fear about them.
