Banga raya (hibiscus)
The national flower of Malaysia is the five-petal, red Bunga Raya (hibiscus).
The above is a small sample of the many varieties of hibiscus at Taman Banga Raya, the hibiscus garden at Kuala Lumpur. Click pic for enlarged view.
In different proportions
Sharp-edged thorns that prick
Buds soft as silk
Roots to hold the growing branches
Leaves that ‘cook’ and aim to nourish
Flowers that unfold in colors bright and light
Sober browns that soothe the sight
Rays that stream revealing the beauty within
Sometimes concealing what is on the other side
Dark corners hiding angst, anger, may be deceit?
Gnawing worms, hidden too well.
Gossamer webs some here, some sticking there
Of dreams and fantasies untold
In each one of us they all reside
In proportions alone, they differ, let us be aware.
